Woman sentenced after pleading guilty to horse neglect

A woman has been sentenced after pleading guilty to failing to care for her horses properly. Renee Walker, 31, from Lincolnshire, appeared in Grimsby Magistrates Court last Friday for sentencing after she admitted failing to meet the needs of her horses under the Animal Welfare Act 2006. She received a 12 month ban on keeping horses and was ordered to pay £500 in costs.

Police have said that fly grazing has reached crisis point in Wales. Abandoned horses in Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan are placing members of the public at risk and coasting councils in the south of Wales thousands of pounds. Last month, police received 497 calls relating to abandoned horses.

Plans to bring back a controversial horse show have been scrapped after public outcry. The show, which would have taken place in America, involved horses jumping off a 40ft platform. Welfare groups immediately disagreed with the idea after it was revealed by the owners of Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey, that they intended to bring the diving show back.


Horse centre treating a record amount of horses

A horse centre located in North Cornwall is treating a record number of horses and ponies due to the cold weather. Horse Haven Rescue, which was launched in 2008 and costs about £1,000 a month to run, currently has 24 of the animals at its stables and is appealing for volunteers to come forward and help.

Erica Marshall, 28, from New Jersey, USA, had been monitoring the horse, which was receiving oxygen therapy. The incident took place last Friday.


Horse owners jailed for causing unnecessary suffering

A man and woman have been jailed for four months after causing unnecessary suffering to seven horses in their care. Paul Flowers, 43, of Finedon Road, Wellingborough, and Barbara Morrison, 43, of Brooke Close, Wellingborough, pleaded guilty to four charges each and were sentenced at Wellingborough Magistrates Court.
